Dumfries' David Bogie claims eighth RSAC Scottish Rally win in Dalbeattie

David Bogie took an eighth win on the RSAC Scottish Rally on Saturday.

The Dumfries driver teamed up with Haugh of Urr co-driver Kirsty Riddick to win the Dalbeattie-based event in his Volkswagen Polo R5 by 13 seconds from Jonathan Greer, with Euan Thorburn rounding off the podium.

The latest round of the Asset Alliance Group Scottish Rally Championship was based at Jas P Wilson, with the ceremonial finish taking place on Dalbeattie High Street.

Mark McCulloch of Dumfries and co-driver Michael Hendry took eighth in their Proton Satria Evo, with Castle Douglas’ Scott Peacock second in class in his Mitsubishi Evo 8 as he came 12th overall. The Evo 9 of Angus Lawrie of Castle Douglas and Paul Gribben of Annan came home 26th.

Castle Douglas’ Jock Armstrong and Kirkgunzeon’s Rory Young were expected to be among the favourites for victory but both suffered early retirements.

The Albyn Garage Challengers and G&M Mechanical Services two-wheel drive titles both went to Robert Proudlock of Dumfries, who had Steven Brown navigating in his Peugeot 208 Rally 4.

They also won the Pro2 Class, with Richard Stewart of Dumfries third in his similar car.

There was M5 success for the Ford Escort Mk2 of Penpont’s Greg McKnight and Harry Marchbank of Dumfries.

H2 saw more Escorts, with Penpont’s James Robertson third, one place ahead of Donald Peacock of Bridge of Dee and Mairi Riddick of Dumfries. Newton Stewart duo Craig and Finn McMiken were third in their Escort.

Class M5 went to Niall Cowan Jr of Dumfries in his MG ZR.

Scott Gourlay of Dalbeattie won C2 in his Peugeot 205 and Stuart Paterson of Dumfries won C5 in his Subaru GC8. Dumfries’ Lewis Haining steered his MG 3 to third in C3.
