Dumbarton 0-0 Stenhousemuir - Sons held by Champions-elect in entertaining stalemate

Stevie Farrell says his Sons are heading in the right direction, as they were held by Champions-elect Stenhousemuir.

If results had gone their way the Warriors could’ve been crowned champions, but it was the hosts who had the better of the chances - with boss Farrell full of praise for his side, as they continue to build form ahead of the playoffs.

The boss said: “We’ve looked at the stats and they back up what we thought. We had the better possession, better chances, more corners and were on the front foot,

“To be fair to Stenny they have defended really well and their keeper has made a great save from Tony Wallace’s header.

“I’m a wee bit disappointed with the result, but overall I’m pleased with the performance.

“Any team that loses Mark Durnan and Brett Long will be impacted. And it’s no coincidence that Mark Durnan is back in the side and we are where we are defensively.

“We look solid, our structure looks good and we’re not giving up a lot of chances either. That bodes well for us as the season progresses.

“We’re taking it one game at a time. People get hung up with playoffs and calculations. We’re in a position where if we win games of football and pick up points then we’ll be in the playoffs.

“We’re quietly going in the right direction and playing very well in my opinion.”

Farrell was forced into one change from the side which had defeated Bonnyrigg Rose a week previous, as the fit-again Sean Crighton replaced Ryan Blair - missing due to illness.

But the change looked to have little impact on the Sons, who could’ve been ahead three times in the opening three minutes.
