Dujon Sterling breaks 'harsh' Rangers red card silence as he tells SFA 'next time I'll try not to SLIP'

Irked Dujon Sterling has claimed it was a "harsh" red card that he landed during the clash with Aberdeen - as he pledged to not changed his style of play.

The Ibrox midfielder got his marching orders after catching Dons ace Jack McKenzie on the toe with a late challenge during Gers' 2-1 win. Referee Don Robertson decided to stick by his decision despite being sent to take a second look by the VAR room. Ibrox bosses then launched an appeal of the incident - but it was thrown out by the SFA leading to Sterling missing two games.

Asked about the red card ahead of the visit of Hearts, having made his return to action in the win over St Johnstone, the versatile Rangers star said: "I thought the red card was harsh. But it's not in my control, it's up to the ref and the SFA. But now that I'm back I'm just trying to make a positive impact like I did at the weekend."

Pressed on if he felt the rules were unclear on what merited a red card with the use of VAR in the modern game, Sterling went on: "Watching it back, I can see why they think it's dangerous, but you can see I clearly slipped and I've only touched his toe and I haven't touched his ankle. But we move on, it's been done and there's nothing we can do. I've taken the two-game ban and now I'm just looking forward to the rest of the season."

Pressed on if he would consider changing his style of tackling, he said: "No, not really. I'll still go in and try and win the ball 100 percent. If I catch him, I catch him and if I don't, I don't. It's just trying to balance it out and hopefully, next time not slipping."
