Dublin's Dean Rock announces retirement from intercounty football
Dublin's Dean Rock has announced his retirement from intercounty football.
The Dublin forward won eight All-Ireland titles, and was an integral part of a Dublin side that won six All-Ireland titles in a row.
Son of former Dublin forward Barney, the Ballymun Kickham's player made his debut in 2012, and won his first All-Ireland title in 2013 against Mayo.
Known for his free-taking, Rock scored the winning point in the 2017 final, and scored the fastest ever goal in an All-Ireland final in 2020 against Mayo.
Along with his all-Ireland titles, he also won 12 Leinster senior football championships, six National Leagues, and three All Stars.
His last action in a Dublin jersey was coming off the bench to score a point in the All-Ireland final victory over Kerry.
In a statement made on Tuesday morning, the 33-year-old said:“The time has come for me to hang up the Blue jersey & end my playing career with the Dublin Senior Football team.
“I now step aside fulfilled, knowing that I made the most of the opportunity that was given to me. What started as a young boy’s dream in the back garden to eventually living my dream of representing Dublin is something I take immense pride from.
“The last 16 years playing for Dublin GAA would not have been possible without the care & support of so many.
“I would like to thank the Dublin county board staff, coaches & officials for all they do & all they have done for me throughout the years.
“To my own club Ballymun Kickhams. I am forever grateful to all the managers, coaches & players who nurtured my love of the game. I look forward to working alongside all club members in helping to develop the next generation in the years to come.
