Drivers who have flouted rules at Greater Manchester junction told 'fine in post'

Police have fired a warning to drivers in Salford who have been flouting the rules of the road. Greater Manchester Police says officers have been monitoring Adelphi Street, near to the junction with Chapel Street.

It comes as multiple motorists have been ignoring a sign on the road. The sign instructs drivers to keep to the left of the island in the middle of Adelphi Street.

But several drivers have been veering to the right of the island in order to move past stationary traffic. GMP says that in some cases, cars are being driven into oncoming traffic.

Police are now clamping down on the issue, with those caught out being written to by GMP. The force shared three photos of vehicles driving on the wrong side of the sign.

In one image, a Skoda Citigo car is on the incorrect side of the road, while two cars are approaching it. In each of the two other images, a van is on the wrong side of the road.

A spokesperson for GMP Traffic wrote on X today (January 31): "Recently we have been monitoring Adelphi Street, Salford. We have been enforcing cars ignoring a mandatory arrow instructing drivers to keep left.

"Driving against the traffic flow and, in some cases, heading directly into oncoming traffic. Letters fine in post."
