Driver arrested after attempting a U-turn on the M60

A driver has been arrested in Greater Manchester after trying to perform a reckless manoeuvre on a motorway. Officers stopped a black Honda Civic on the M60 in the early hours of this morning (April 8).

It followed a dangerous attempt by the driver, a man in his 40s, to perform a U-turn on an exit slip road at junction five, near Princess Parkway. Had he been successful, he would have driven straight back onto the anti-clockwise carriageway, driving onto oncoming traffic.

Luckily, officers managed to bring the incident to a halt. The driver was pulled over by police and given a roadside breathalyser test for drink-driving.

Officers arrested the driver on suspicion of drink driving after the test result was above the legal limit for alcohol. He has since been taken to custody.

In a post shared on Twitter this morning, a spokesperson for North West Motorway Police wrote: "Earlier on in the shift this vehicle was stopped by passing motorists when it tried to U-turn on the exit slip of M60 motorway to drive contra towards oncoming traffic. Driver provided a roadside breath test of 66- arrested by ME14 and off to custody."
