Dramatic video shows moment bus bursts into flames on busy road

This is the dramatic moment a bus burst into flames on a busy road in Salford.

The fire broke out on the single-decker bus on Liverpool Road in the Peel Green area of Eccles at around 9.30pm last night (July 22). Video footage showed huge flames and plumes of smoke billowing from the back end the vehicle as people watched on.

Firefighters raced to the scene and used hose reels to extinguish the blaze. They 'made the area safe' then left the scene after around an hour.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus involved was a Diamond service. The driver reportedly made it safely out of the vehicle while there were reportedly no passengers onboard.

Pictures on social media also showed a cordon put in place across Liverpool Road, close to The Grapes pub, as police also responded.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Shortly after 9:30pm last night (Monday 22 July), two fire engines from Stretford and Eccles fire stations were called to attend a vehicle fire involving a single decker bus on Liverpool Road, Eccles.

"Crews arrived quickly and used two hose reels to extinguish the fire. Firefighters made the area safe before departing after approximately an hour at the scene."

Diamond bus has been contacted for further information.
