Drama and red flags at Aussie F1: 5 epic moments from memorable day Down Under

The 2023 Australian Grand Prix was unlike anything we've ever seen. Three restarts and three red flags later, the race eventually concluded.

We highlight five moments that contributed to this year's race around Albert Park in Melbourne, making it one of the most memorable yet.

Verstappen's easy pass

Red Bull's Max Verstappen did not have the best getaways at the Australian GP. When the race got underway, he fell victim to both Mercedes-AMGs of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, settling into third place in the race's early stages.

But after the first restart and with only Hamilton ahead of him, Verstappen made small work of the seven-time champion. On Lap 12 of 58, Verstappen lined up his former rival on the DRS zone between Turns 8 and 9, overtaking Hamilton easily.

"My start wasn't amazing, and then on Lap 1, I was very careful as there was a lot on the line. I had a lot to lose and a lot to win. But after that restart, we had good pace and a decent gap for the majority of the race," Verstappen said.

"It's my first win in Australia, which feels really good. It's also been a while for the team, so it means a lot to us all."

Red Bull last won in Australia in 2011 with Sebastian Vettel behind the wheel.

"We did everything right this weekend. We had a great qualifying, and [on Sunday], the start was perfect. We managed the first stint well, and I could have extended it quite a lot more.

"I see no reason why we couldn't have fought for victory, so it's disappointing. As soon as I came through the high-speed turn 10, I felt
