Donny van de Beek breaks silence on Manchester United future

Donny van de Beek has admitted he could leave Manchester United this summer in search of regular game time.

Van de Beek made just two league starts for United last season and he sustained a serious knee-injury during a 3-0 win against Bournemouth in January, which ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign.

There were high hopes for Van de Beek when he arrived from Ajax in 2020, but the midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular during his time at the club and he could leave before the end of the window.

Van de Beek has only recently returned from his knee injury and he scored in his first appearance of pre-season against Lyon on Wednesday afternoon, before speaking to reporters in the mixed zone at Murrayfield.

The 26-year-old was candid when asked about his future and he confirmed it's possible he could make an exit from Old Trafford.

"For now, it's hard to say where my future is. I've come back now after injury and I'm fit now, so I play my first minutes after training for a few weeks, so I try to push as hard as possible," Van de Beek said.

"Every day [something] can happen, so it's hard to say now where my future will be. In football you never know, especially with me, so let's see what happens."

Van de Beek was asked whether the door was still open at Old Trafford for him and he added: "Yeah, but it's also a possibility that I move, so everything is open. It's hard to say now where my future is.

"I'm focussing on getting as fit as possible and pushing on."

Van de Beek cost United £35m in 2020
