Donny van de Beek addresses Manchester United playing time under Erik ten Hag

Donny van de Beek has made a positive claim about Erik ten Hag at Manchester United ahead of today's clash with Arsenal.

Van de Beek has known Ten Hag for quite some time, having been managed by the Dutchman at Ajax before moving to Old Trafford. After a shaky start to his tenure, United have seemed to settle the ship with three wins from their previous three matches.

Despite the early rough patch, the 25-year-old never doubted that the new manager would be anything less than a good addition to United. Van de Beek told MUTV : "He [Ten Hag] will be really good for the club.

"I think in terms of the way the club is, and how they want to play, he's a good mix for what they want as a manager. We had big success at the club in Ajax.

"Now we are here, with a new chapter and a new challenge, and of course we want to do the same here."

Those who may have expected Van de Beek to jump straight into the starting XI at United when Ten Hag arrived have been proved wrong.

The midfielder came off the bench for brief cameos in the opening trio of fixtures this season but was an unused substitute against Southampton and Leicester City. Discussing his playing time, Van de Beek added: "A club like United needs many options and needs a big squad to play and to have a good season.

"Everyone wants to play, but you have to show it and you need to improve yourself every day to be in the first XI. Having lots of options will keep everyone sharp, and for this we need lots of good players."
