"Don't think Tottenham will let him go" – Pundit drops claim as Serie A giants circle 52-cap ace

Tottenham are unlikely to let Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leave this summer, according to former Premier League man Carlton Palmer.

The 52-cap Denmark international has been an essential player since signing from Southampton in 2020, but he’s been linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Roma.

Reports in Italy claimed that after his appointment at the Stadio Olimpico last summer, Mourinho was keen on bringing Hojbjerg to the Italian capital.

Mourinho had signed the midfielder when he was Tottenham manager 12 months earlier, and he had enjoyed a fine first year in North London.

Hojbjerg ended up staying at Spurs, but his former manager remains interested in signing him in the summer window, according to Corriere della Ser (via The Sun).

His form has dropped off this season, although he’s started all-but two Premier League games since he arrived from Southampton under two years ago, and one of those he missed was because he had returned a positive COVID-19 test.

Since he was taken out of the side for the Wolves defeat last month, Hojbjerg has been showing signs of his old self, highlighted by the fact that only Heung Min Son and Harry Kane have outperformed him this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Therefore, unless Tottenham receive a huge offer for Hojbjerg’s services, Palmer expects him to be at the club next season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think Tottenham will let him go. He’s been a consistent performer for them and why would you sell one of your better players, unless the money makes sense, whereby they believe it’s too good to turn down, then fair enough.

“But unless it’s an offer they can’t turn down, I can’t see them letting him go.”
