"Don't think there's any chance" - Transfer insider claims £350k-p/w star will stay at Man Utd

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea will not leave the Old Trafford outfit this summer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Reports have suggested that incoming manager Erik ten Hag is concerned over the £350,000 per-week Spain international fitting into his system, but Jones doesn’t see De Gea going anywhere.

Despite a host of United legends, including Gary Neville, Bryan Robson and Jaap Stam, saying that De Gea should win the club’s player of the season award for a fourth time, ESPN believe Ten Hag has fears over his ability to play in his possession-based system.

But the report states that United have more important issues to solve elsewhere in the squad other than signing a new goalkeeper, especially with the 31-year-old one of few impressive performers last season.

De Gea was ever-present in the Premier League in 2021-2022 but kept only eight clean sheets on his way to conceding 57 goals, the most in his 11 seasons at Old Trafford.

Despite accepting that last term was ‘tough’, on a personal level he admitted that it might go down as one of his best for the Red Devils.

And even though De Gea has less than 12 months remaining on his current contract, Jones expects the Spaniard to still be at the club next season.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I don’t think there’s any chance De Gea goes. They don’t really want to lose anyone who’s on big money.

“You’ve got De Gea, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Ronaldo and Rashford. I don’t see any of those guys leaving in the next window because they’ve got to be careful how they try to transition the squad.”
