Newcastle 'admirers' of 66-goal striker target at St James' Park

Newcastle United are ‘admirers’ of Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin and could look to lure the frontman to St James’ Park this summer, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Ahead of his first full season at the helm after being appointed as head coach last November, Eddie Howe may add reinforcements to the Magpies’ squad when the transfer window reopens next week.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are plotting a big-money move for Calvert-Lewin as Howe looks to bolster his options in the attacking third of the pitch.

The report suggests the 11-cap England international has been made a priority target by the Magpies, who understand Calvert-Lewin would be interested in heading to Tyneside.

Although the 25-year-old succeeded in ensuring Everton would not drop out of the Premier League for the first time in their history, with them finishing four points clear of the relegation zone, it seems he could still move onto pastures new ahead of next season.

That is because the Toffees are reportedly ready to cash-in on Calvert-Lewin and, as a result, Arsenal and West Ham United have been put on red alert.

But Newcastle will fancy their chances of winning the race for the frontman as they became the richest club in world football after the Saudi Arabia-based Public Investment Fund completed a £305million takeover last October.

O’Rourke understands Newcastle and Arsenal are keeping tabs on Calvert-Lewin ahead of potentially pouncing.
