Dominic Calvert-Lewin backed to join London rivals despite Arsenal transfer interest

Former Tottenham striker Darren Bent has backed Everton and England forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin to join West Ham in the summer, despite reports linking him with a move to Arsenal. The 25-year-old has been plagued with injuries this season, but has shown his quality in previous campaigns.

With just ten appearances and three goals, the absence of the forward is little coincidence in the lack of form that his side currently has. The Toffees are fighting for Premier League survival, just three points clear of the bottom three.

Their struggles aren’t only on the pitch though as financial turmoil has hit the Merseyside club due to their spending in recent seasons. It’s a situation that could see them move on key players to recover.

That’s where The Sun reports that Calvert-Lewin in particular could leave in the summer to help repair the £373million losses they have suffered over the past three seasons. This could be where Arsenal come in.

The Gunners are one side linked with a move for the England international, with Mikel Arteta in desperate need of more attacking options in the summer. With the loss of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah could follow with their contracts expiring.

It would leave the Spaniard with just Folarin Balogun as a natural centre-forward option. This is why the club are said to be pushing for a striker in the summer.
