Dion Charles on proving people wrong with Bolton Wanderers transfer & Northern Ireland ambitions

Dion Charles believes he has won people over to him after his start to life at Bolton Wanderers as he sought to prove some people in football wrong with his form on the pitch for his new club.

The 26-year-old joined Wanderers at the start of the January transfer window from Accrington Stanley for an undisclosed fee and became the first player Bolton paid a transfer fee for since 2018 in the process.

Charles has already begun to repay that outlay Wanderers made for him with six goals so far for his new club in 13 games.

His goals have helped Wanderers climb up the League One table to 10th and are at least in the conversation to potentially reach the play-offs with 11 games of their regular season left to go.

Charles began playing first-team football once again at Wanderers after he had not done so at former club Stanley since September.

That was due to not being considered for selection by Stanley due to not putting pen to paper on a fresh deal at the club in a 'Mexican stand-off' claimed by Accrington boss John Coleman.

Charles was eager to demonstrate what he could do and felt the need to prove some people wrong after claiming details were put out in the public domain regarding him which he says 'quite frankly weren’t true'.

And he has backed himself to keep finding the back of the net for his new club as he described a change in the styles of goals he has scored at Wanderers compared to Stanley.

He said: "I was chomping at the bit to come and show people what I could do. There were things put out in the press about me that quite frankly weren’t true, so I had to prove some people wrong.
