Diogo Dalot hopeful of new Manchester United contract amid interest from five clubs

Diogo Dalot is hopeful of receiving a new contract offer from Manchester United amid ongoing interest from clubs across Europe.

Right-back Dalot has started the season superbly, lining up in all eight of United's matches and scoring twice on international duty for Portugal in their 4-0 victory over the Czech Republic last week.

The 23-year-old continues to generate interest from Europe's elite, with Barcelona, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Roma monitoring Dalot's form.

Dalot has technically entered the last year of his contract but United have a one-year extension they are expected to trigger before the end of the January transfer window.

Milan signed Dalot on a season-long transfer two years ago when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was United manager and wanted to re-sign the Portuguese, while Borussia Dortmund also enquired. Atletico contacted United about Dalot earlier this year.

United only kept Dalot under Solskjaer as they failed to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico and the Norwegian's sacking in November last year enabled Dalot to oust the flagging Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Dalot had his most involved season with United last term, starting 24 games, and he has been injury-free in the last two years.

United manager Erik ten Hag started Dalot in the first-team's five friendlies during pre-season whereas Wan-Bissaka has been reduced to four minutes of competitive playing time.

Wan-Bissaka was informed he was free to leave before the end of last season but the lack of takers have left United with the £50million right-back. Ten Hag was keen to recruit Sergino Dest from Barcelona had United offloaded Wan-Bissaka.
