Manchester United can sign perfect Diogo Dalot alternative to repeat Erik ten Hag trick

Since Erik ten Hag was appointed the manager of Manchester United, a number of players have drastically improved. One of these players is Diogo Dalot, whose future at Old Trafford seemed in doubt under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked in doubt, but now is a key starter for the team.

The issue is Dalot's contract runs out in 2023 and though the club hold an option to extend for further year, there is the possibility that the Portuguese full-back leaves in the future as a number of high-profile clubs are interested in his signature. This means United need to have a plan B.

Even if the 23-year-old stays, he is currently the only right-back that Ten Hag seems to be able to rely on. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has only played for four minutes so far this campaign and many fans believe that his time in Manchester will soon come to an end.

Therefore United need to consider signing a full-back who can rotate with Dalot in the short term and potentially replace him in the long term - and one player who would perfectly fit that profile is Olympique Lyon's Malo Gusto.

90mins reported that United and Barcelona are both interested in Gusto, who became a regular starter for Lyon last season and clocked in a number of impressive performances in the Europa League. The report goes onto state that both clubs had been monitoring the player since the start of 2022 and had also enquired about him in the summer.

Despite only being 19, Gusto seems adept at both ends of the field. Defensively he seems to have the awareness to close out threats down the wing and avoid being caught out.
