Dimitar Berbatov questions Manchester United transfer stance after Donny van de Beek warning

Dimitar Berbatov believes it is a dangerous narrative to suggest Manchester United need to keep spending money in order to fix their problems. United are set to back their next manager with money at the end of the season as they look to finally make their way back to the top of English football.

Ralf Rangnick has already advised United to sign a younger striker in the summer, with veteran forward Edinson Cavani certain to leave when his contract expires and Cristiano Ronaldo's future uncertain if the team fails to qualify for the Champions League.

It means United could look to add a new striker at the end of the season, but Betfair AmbassadorBerbatov does not believe that spending money is necessarily the solution.

"No, I think they have enough striking options," Berbatov told The Manchester Evening News in an interview with Betfair. "Ronaldo, Cavani - even though he has been injured, Rashford, Sancho are there. There is plenty of talent and options.

"Let's not forget, sometimes even if you play without a striker, like City are doing, you can still score goals. You just need to be intelligent, you need to read the game, you need to know how to outsmart your opponent. You need to be cunning, go there, be not so nice, plan, execute and be nasty from time to time. It is about the three points and getting into the top four.

"Even mentioning the top four is disrespectful, because when you are at United, it should only be about the top one."
