Diablo Immortal: Will the game release on consoles?

Diablo Immortal is coming to PC and Mobile on June 2nd 2022 but there remains a nagging question: Will the game be released on consoles?

This is the first release of a Diablo game in a decade, with Diablo 3 being released back in 2012.

It should also be said that Diablo Immortal is set to fill in the story between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3, meaning that this could be a very important release for the franchise.

Diablo 3 released on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, and eventually PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, although it was originally a PC release. That first release came in 2012, and it hit consoles in 2013.

Diablo 2 also hit consoles, and has even been re-released on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, while Diablo 1 came to PlayStation in the late 1990s.

Still, Blizzard have taken steps to ensure that players can use console controllers to play the game, which has lifted hopes that it could eventually come to consoles.

Still, Rod Fergusson, who is the director of the Diablo licence, has come out to address speculation that it could eventually hit the PS5 or the Xbox Series X/S.

The answer, right now, appears to be no.

As per eSports Extras, Fergusson said: “I want to point out that controller support and console support are two very separate things.

“Basically, I’m the type that never says never but we have nothing to announce or say today.”

Joe Grubb, who is the director of Diablo Immortal, has echoed these sentiments.

He added, per the same website: “I think a big part of the controller support was that it was supposed to be included in the mobile version, so it ultimately gave mobile and PC.

“It was part of our goal to bring Diablo Immortal to new audiences and make it more accessible.
