Diablo Immortal: Player spends over £5,000 and gets "nothing"

Diablo Immortal has received a significant backlash for the monetisation and microtransactions that are in the game and a streamer has now made it clear just how broken the game’s economy is.

As per Kotaku, Twitch streamer Quin69 has been pouring his money into the game in a bid to see just how much he will need to spend to actually receive some items that are useful.

Per the report, Quin69 is based in New Zealand and has been spending $25 a time on Diablo Immortal, which is marketed as a free game for both mobile and PC.

In total, he has spent in excess of $10,300 in New Zealand Dollars, which equates to US $6,600 or £5,299.

That is a staggering amount of money to spend on a video game of any kind, but one would surely expect to receive something back for the investment. After all, players who pour their money into a game like FIFA, for example, could at least receive a few special cards, or a player like Lionel Messi.

And he has now explained that, after spending all of that cash, he got “nothing”.

The game’s best gear is the 5-star Legendary Gem; Quin did not get a single one of those from his investment.

It’s very clear that the drop rate of those Legendary Gems is ridiculously low, with Kotaku reporting that the chance of acquiring one of those Gems is around 1%.

Of course, we would never encourage players to spend such a huge amount of money on a videogame but Quin’s sacrifice goes to show that doing so is ultimately a folly.

It is also absolutely no surprise that Diablo Immortal has Blizzard’s lowest-ever user rating on Metacritic. it currently stands at 0.5 from 3,504 ratings.
