Euro 2022: Northern Ireland release official song for first-ever finals

Northern Ireland have released their official song for this summer's Euro 2022 finals.

Kenny Shiels' side are counting down the days to their opening match at the tournament.

They kick-off the finals against Norway on July 7, with other group games against Austria (July 11) and hosts England (July 15).

And Northern Ireland now have a tune to carry them into the finals.

‘Girl Got Game’ has been described as a "feel-good, infectious two-minute pop track" that has been recorded by Belfast-based artist Jessica Hammond in conjunction with the Irish FA.

The IFA said on its website: "The release of ‘Girl Got Game’ marks the start of this final flurry focusing on the message of female empowerment.

"It features lots of Green and White Army singalong lyrics for good measure. Jessica started her music career at 14 on Disney’s 'My Camp Rock' performing alongside Demi Lovato and has worked with some top producers and Grammy Award-winning writers, including Amy Wadge (Thinking Out Loud/Ed Sheeran) and Ollie Jacobs (The Saturdays)."

Belfast artist Jessica has already earned Top 10 Shazam chart positions in Ireland, while she boasts a growing Spotify audience of 225,000 monthly listeners and over three million streams with releases on Irish label Paragon Records and European dance labels Chill Your Mind and Loudkult shows no sign of slowdown.

Jessica said: “‘Girl Got Game’ is a female empowerment song. I wanted to write a song where the vibe was uplifting and motivating.

"I wanted to write lyrics using football terminology like ‘always ready to attack’ and ‘don’t take your eye off the ball’ while also keeping it vague enough to be relatable outside of the game, and to be a feel-good song for all women, even outside of the sport.”
