Derby County man linked as Preston North End 'set to sign' fellow free agent

Preston North End have been linked with a couple of players in the last 24 hours, with one goalkeeper reportedly 'set to sign' for the Lilywhites.

Ryan Lowe has completed one signing so far, with Freddie Woodman brought in on a three-year contract from Newcastle United. PNE were delighted to get him on a permanent deal and the 25-year-old may have back-up shortly, if recent transfer claims prove to be true.

Here are the latest transfer headlines concerning PNE.

According to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, PNE are 'set to sign' David Cornell following his release from Peterborough United - who went down from the Championship last season.

The 31-year-old is available on a free after being let go by Posh, though he did have one year left to run on his contract. The Welshman recently represented Ipswich Town - where he spent one year - after four seasons at Northampton Town.

North End have been targeting a number two 'keeper, to provide back-up for Woodman, and Cornell is someone who may well be happy to be just that. He played 30 times for Peterborough last year after a club fall-out with Christy Pym, and has also played for Oldham and Swansea.

Football Insider report that Preston North End have 'set their sights' on Derby County midfielder Ravel Morrison, but there is said to be interest from Sunderland and Huddersfield Town too.

The 29-year-old scored four and assisted four in a Rams shirt last season, with one of those goals coming against PNE. His contract at Derby expires at the end of this month and he will be a free agent. Morrison has been away with Jamaica, with his international apps now at 14.
