"Definitely somebody they like" - Journalist drops Newcastle claim on "devastating" £30m striker

Newcastle United do not have Chelsea striker Armando Broja at the top of their list of targets, according to Dean Jones.

The transfer insider says the Tyneside club do like him; however, he is not the first name currently on their radar.

On Monday, the MailOnline reported that Newcastle’s Premier League rivals West Ham and Everton have formally registered an interest in Broja.

Regarding how much he could cost, the number the newspaper mentions is £30m, but Chelsea are unlikely to sanction a sale immediately.

It is believed that Thomas Tuchel wants to assess Broja in pre-season before any decision on his future is made.

With Romelu Lukaku returning to Inter Milan, there could be space for another centre-forward in the squad like Broja.

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Newcastle also like the Albanian but do not have him as a top target right now.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “He’s not at the top of the list, but he is definitely somebody they like. They know there’s going to be competition to get him, so I think they’re a bit wary of how much effort they’re going to have to put into signing him.”

It would not be a surprise, as the Magpies are struggling to land their other striker targets.

A deal for Reims youngster Hugo Ekitike is off as things stand, while Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin seems to be too expensive.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle were quoted a £60m fee when they enquired about signing the England international, a price they do not want to pay.

The above means Eddie Howe could have no choice but to turn to someone like Broja, who would not be a bad addition at St James’ Park.
