David Ornstein issues promising Leeds update live on Sky
Leeds United are still determined to tie Kalvin Phillips down to a new deal at Elland Road despite the rumours of a potential exit.
This is what reliable journalist David Ornstein said live on Sky Sports News on Friday morning whilst discussing interest from across the Premier League in the midfielder.
Phillips has been subjected to transfer speculation for a number of months now with reports in January suggesting West Ham United submitted a bid for the midfielder.
And amid reported interest from Aston Villa, Ornstein discussed the possibility of Leeds’ fierce rivals, Manchester United, lodging their interest in the summer.
Phillips does still have just over two years remaining on his current deal but with a potentially big summer ahead, Ornstein had the following update to provide:
“He may be a good fit, Joe [presenter], and Manchester United may like to sign him. But I think it’s quite unrealistic. One, because Leeds are very determined to tie him down to a new contract.
(0:00) “Of course, that’s up to him. If he wants to sign whatever is put in front of him. He’s under contract at Elland Road until 2024. And he’s their local boy, of course, and it’s for that reason that I doubt Manchester United because of the rivalry between the two clubs historically.”
TIF Thoughts on Ornstein’s comments…
Leeds fans will surely love what Ornstein had to say in the sense of the club not giving up on trying to secure the 26-year-old’s future with a new deal.
However, there will obviously be a lot resting on how the remainder of their campaign pans out. Should the Whites find themselves relegated to the Championship then surely the decision will be out of their control.
But if they do retain their Premier League status, then we do
