David Moyes addresses Harry Maguire to West Ham links after Manchester United captaincy decision
West Ham United manager David Moyes has been asked about the speculation linking his side with a move for former Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.
Maguire, who announced that he had been stripped of the United captaincy on Sunday, has been heavily linked with a summer move to the Hammers over the last few weeks. Reports in the national media have claimed that the Londoners are 'exploring' the prospect of signing him in this window, either on loan or on a permanent basis.
The England defender, who took to social media to confirm that Erik ten Hag had taken the captain's armband away from him, fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford last term, making just 31 appearances in all competitions. He played just 16 times in the Premier League, bagging eight starts.
He heads into the forthcoming campaign way down the pecking order at centre-back. United are open to selling him this summer, but their £50million valuation could put suitors off.

West Ham are one of a handful of clubs to have been regularly linked with Maguire, but boss Moyes, addressing the media ahead of his side's upcoming friendly with Tottenham Hotspur in Australia, refused to be drawn on the ongoing speculation.
"Well, I couldn't tell you anything because I think talking about players from other clubs who are under contracts, that's not the right thing to do, so I'd never do that," Moyes told reporters.
