David McGoldrick reflects on his Sheffield United career, promotion and 'special' team-mates

David McGoldrick leaves Sheffield United with nothing but fond memories after the curtain comes down on his four-year spell at Bramall Lane. It was a period he describes as 'the best' and included a promotion to the Premier League and a player of the year award.

Without a club after leaving Ipswich, he had no idea what was in store when he arrived in the summer of 2018 to prove his fitness. But it turned out to be the highlight of his career with an unbelievable journey still to come.

He would not only go on to become a hugely popular member of the Sheffield United dressing room, but also a fans favourite too and you only had to witness the standing ovation he was afforded by supporters after it was announced his contact would not be renewed beyond this season.

He became an instant hit, scoring 15 goals as part of an unforgettable promotion campaign that saw United finish second to secure a place in the top flight for the first time in 13 years.

In a special interview with Yorkshire Live, he recalls those four years and lifts the lid on the 'best period of my career'.

He said: "That first season was so enjoyable and the reason for that was the lads that we did it with. It was probably the best dressing room that I have been in.

"The way we played football as well, we stuck to our philosophy all the way through. Teams couldn't cope with us and it was such a joy to play. Teams didn't know what to do and you would hear opposition players arguing about who to pick up.

"We knew we were on to something special. We had a few blips but we were still one of the best footballing teams and we got rewarded.
