David McGoldrick makes Sheffield United prediction as he sends message to new signings

David McGoldrick believes Sheffield United will be competing for promotion once again if they can make the necessary signings to strengthen the squad and continue their form from the back end of last season. The popular striker is leaving the club at the end of the month after four years in a red and white shirt.

He also believes any new signing is walking into a dressing room that is in 'really good hands' having seen first-hand how Paul Heckingbottom and his coaching staff have turned the club's fortunes around following their appointment in November.

McGoldrick missed the run to the play-offs after picking up a thigh injury that required surgery. As a gesture of goodwill from Heckingbottom and an example of his popularity within the club, he was being allowed to stay at the Randox Health Academy training base and complete his rehabilitation before leaving.

The 34-year-old has also been contacted by a number of clubs and he looks set to have plenty of options to weigh up in the summer. However, before he departs for good when his contract expires on June 30, he told Yorkshire Live what type of dressing room he is leaving behind and what new signings can expect when they walk through the Sheffield United door.

"It's probably the best dressing room that I have been in. It's in really good hands in terms of the staff and the way they are changing and tweaking their own little things," he explained.

"The gaffer, Stuart [McCall] and Jack [Lester] there's a real United front together. He wants everyone on the same page, you work hard in everything that you do.
