Sander Berge reacts to Norway manager's comment over his Sheffield United future

Ståle Solbakken says he does not believe Sander Berge should be playing in the Championship. The 24-year-old was on press duty alongside his national team manager in Belgrade looking ahead to tonight's match against Serbia when pressed by Norwegian journalists on the player's future.

Failure by Sheffield United to secure a return to the Premier League this season led to that being among the topics for discussion and whether the second tier of English football was the right place for him next season.

Solbakken says it's not. As reported by Norwegian online newspaper Nettavisen, he said: "With the danger of getting Sheffield United on his neck, I think it will be good for him to think about it [his future].

"He does not belong in the Championship when physics and match fitness are in place."

Berge was asked for his opinion on the manager's view and chose not to comment too much, adding it is something that will be taken care of after his involvement with the national team has come to an end.

"I concentrate on the match and leave it until later," Berge replied. "What do I want? I choose not to share it here and now.

"After the national team gathering, my agents, me and the club get to take care of it. I've had a nice development at Sheffield United lately. Then we will see what the future brings."

He was also asked about the recent burglary at his South Yorkshire home, which saw more than £100,000 worth of jewellery stolen. Berge added: "It's past now.

"This is something that happens to many football players abroad, and it happened to me as well, but already the next day my thoughts were entirely on the promotion qualification. The preparations for the match were not affected.
