David Gray fronts up to nightmare Hibs start as boss concedes 'I'm repeating myself'

Frustrated David Gray watched as more defensive disasters ended Hibs’ Premier Sports Cup dream.

The Easter Road side lost 3-1 at Celtic and their manager admitted the majority of those goals they lost were self-inflicted. Gray knows it has been a common theme in recent weeks and one he and his team need to eradicate quickly if they don’t want to curtail their season. Gray stated: “Very frustrating. I feel like I'm repeating myself here because of what happened last weekend. This is a tough enough test to come here at any time but you can't give a level of that opposition a goal of a start.

“We took a bit of confidence (from our goal) and belief from that and started to get forward a bit more. A bit more in their face, a little bit more. That was the message at half time which is that we probably don't deserve to be in the game at that point because of how dominant Celtic were. All the things I talked about, about being more aggressive, we knew we needed to start better in the second half.”

Gray admitted that his team cut their own throat when they got back to 2-1 with another blunder. Gray acknowledged: “One mistake becomes two mistakes, we lose a goal again and from that point I thought Celtic were completely dominating again. We slipped back into that same mode again and right now it's just not acceptable for us.”

The Hibs head coach knows that the only way to sort things is on the training pitch and players are fighting for places, with more signings set to come in. He explained: “We need to coach the players and make sure we show them.

“One thing we can't continue to do is keep making them. I’ve already touched on pre-game as well, there is going to be more competition for places now.
