David de Gea training footage shows Manchester United might owe him something

The Premier League introduced the Golden Glove award in 2004 and it's given to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets.

David de Gea won the award for the second time in his career playing for Manchester United last season, but he's the only goalkeeper in the award's history to claim the prize and become a free agent just a few months later.

Although De Gea kept 17 clean sheets last term, it was a collective effort and it felt appropriate the squad posed for a photo by standing around the Spaniard as he collected the award at Old Trafford on the final day of the season.

De Gea made sure to praise his teammates for that excellent defensive record throughout the year, to his credit. Erik ten Hag also regularly discussed the 'team effort' when he was asked about the number of clean sheets his goalkeeper had kept.

There was recognition from everyone involved that De Gea wasn't solely responsible, but nonetheless, he still made important saves in multiple games, so it feels bizarre that he's still out of contract after winning the Golden Glove.

After claiming the award that allegedly crowns the best goalkeeper of the season, De Gea is without a club with summer about to end. September is just around the corner and the 'keeper still hasn't signed for a side this season.

There was concrete interest in Saudi Arabia in De Gea after his departure from United. Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were also in the market for goalkeepers but they've signed Kepa Arrizabalaga and Daniel Peretz respectively.

Kepa failed at Chelsea and you'd be forgiven for not knowing Peretz, who was signed from Maccabi Tel Aviv. Those two attractive options are now off the table and it seems likely
