David Beckham's 01/02 highlights show Piers Morgan has no leg to stand on

David Beckham was the face of football in England for well over a decade.

The Manchester United star, who would become one of England’s finest captains, burst onto the scene in the ’90s as a fresh-faced whipper-snapper.

However, under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, Beckham quickly became one the Premier League‘s rising stars and, within a few seasons, he was one of the best players in the division.

Beckham was nothing short of a wizard over the dead ball and could make a football do things that just seemed completely unnatural.

However, that wasn’t the only arrow in his quiver as Beckham had quite the eye for a picking out a sweeping assist or landing a pinpoint cross right on the forehead of one of his colleagues.

Add to that his penchant for a long-range worldie, and you had what many would consider to be a pretty complete footballer.

There are some who would disagree with that sentiment, though.

During Sunday night’s NFL Super Bowl, perennial pot-stirrer Piers Morgan randomly had a go at Beckham’s prowess, with an unwarranted pun in reference to Odell Beckham Jr, who was playing for the Los Angeles Rams on the night.

Of course, Gary Lineker was quick to hit back, branding Beckham (David) one of England’s finest players.

The BBC Match of the Day host was absolutely bang on, as well, and we have the footage to prove it.

In fact, we almost had too much footage to prove it, so we’ve settled for highlights of Beckham’s incredible 2001/02 Premier League season.

In just 28 appearances, Beckham netted 11 times while racking up eight assists – some of those goals were simply sublime, as well.
