Conor McGregor: Dustin Poirier closes door on fourth fight with Notorious

Dustin Poirier has poured cold water on a potential fourth fight with Conor McGregor – despite admitting ‘the only reason I’d do it is for money’.

The Diamond has been linked to a fourth showdown with the former UFC lightweight champion following his heart-breaking defeat to Charles Oliveira last December.

Poirier, 33, got the better of the Notorious in back-to-back fights to take the lead in their three-part trilogy series last year, catapulting himself into the mainstream spotlight in the process.

The American’s second victory over McGregor came courtesy of a broken leg for the Irishman, who has since sworn revenge on his old featherweight rival as he continues his recovery from surgery.

However, Poirier has seemingly moved on from his rivalry with the MMA superstar, as he insists that chapter is officially closed.

He told MMA Fighting: “Me and Conor have a history.

“Fighting him at ‘45 and bumping up, then bumping up, fighting him seven years later, beating him.

“Even that fight — I’m probably not going to fight Conor again. I don’t really want to fight Conor again.

“For me, that door is closed. The only reason I’d do it is for money. I beat him two times in a row.

“Can I best my two performances? Can I knock him out quicker? Can I 10-7 him?

“What can I do? I’ve done it. If I do it again, it’s just for money, right? So that’s a completely different thing.”

Poirier revealed he instead would like to throw down with McGregor’s former conqueror Nate Diaz.

He added: “I want the fight, and he wants it, as well.

“I have no clue. On my side, let’s go. On his side and the UFC’s, they have to get it figured out. But I’m ready to rock.
