Dave King and his Rangers prophecy revisited as Celtic 'pack of cards' prediction now takes on different meaning

Former Rangers chief Dave King was nothing if not ambitious when it came to bold predictions.

The South African-based businessman wasn't afraid to go for it and his belief was turbo-charged after securing Steven Gerrard in the summer of 2018.

King famously stated rivals Celtic - riding a crest of a wave under Brendan Rodgers - could be removed as Scottish football's dominant force.

The 66-year-old was right on that point but he doubled down by insisting their city rivals would fold like a "pack of cards", if the Ibrox side were able to secure just one league triumph.

Rangers fans had to wait three years but it was worth it as Gerrard masterminded an undefeated league season that denied Celtic 10 In A Row, as they romped to glory by 25 points.

King was convinced that success would usher in a new era of Ibrox dominance but that is up for debate with Celtic aiming to prove last season's flop was an aberration rather than a long-term malaise.

But the ex-Rangers chief also raised a pertinent point that flew under the radar amid his bombastic title boast.
