Nathan Patterson and his Rangers calling card that will see him through Everton struggles
Former Rangers boss Graeme Murty has lavished praise upon Nathan Patterson amid his current woes at Everton.
The Scotland international has been left on the outside looking in and was unceremoniously hooked at half time during the Toffees' FA Cup win over Boreham Wood.
Frank Lampard then gave the former Rangers star's debut a lukewarm reaction before leaving him out of the squad for the 5-0 thumping away to Tottenham.
The £12million right-back is hoping his fortunes turn and his former Ibrox academy boss is convinced he has the make-up to weather an early storm on Merseyside.
And Murty has namechecked both Billy Gilmour and Patterson as prime examples of what others can strive towards.
Speaking in The Times, he said: "Billy Gilmour was a total pleasure to work with. He came into my under-20 group when he was 15. You have to be very careful taking younger players and putting them in a higher age group, where there will be more mature athletes in there, but Billy was at such a level that he required it. He stood out a mile: the way he trains and the way he plays. He totally stood out. He would have stood out in any setting.
