Ange Postecoglou opens Celtic door to Scott Brown return after 'admiring from afar' former captain's legacy

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has opened the door to working with club legend Scott Brown, admitting "there will always be a welcome place for him here."

The Nine in a Row winning captain is at a career crossroads having left the club last year, after this week ripping up his player-coach contract with Aberdeen less than a season into a two-year deal.

It's understood Brown's focus will be on coaching in his next role with Record Sport revealing on Wednesday that former boss Brendan Rodgers has lined up a role at Leicester City for him.

But the 36-year-old could have a direct route back to Parkhead – rolled out by the manager that missed out on working with him.

Postecoglou said: "From my perspective, I don't think anyone should be in any doubt that there will always be an open door here for Scott Brown.

"The guy is one of the legends of this football club and will go down as one of the greatest ever.

"In terms of what he wants to do with his future, he's best placed to answer that. He's obviously made a decision right now and then after that, it's up to him.

"From my perspective, he's a guy who I've admired from afar but having been here for the last nine months and hearing about him and the kind of person he was - as much as a footballer - he's left a massive legacy here at the football club.

"From that perspective, whatever he does in the future I'm sure there will always be a welcome place for him here."

Brown won 10 league titles - nine of them consecutive - at Celtic along with six Scottish Cups and six League Cups.
