Dave Cormack CAN'T afford another Aberdeen manager flop as cruel moment of Pittodrie irony sums the struggle up

Dave Cormack doesn’t need to wait for an outside review to see what a mess his Aberdeen team are in.

The chairman saw that with his own eyes as his expensively-assembled squad lost 2-0 at home to St Johnstone on Wednesday. There were the usual chants of “sack the board” and then it was ramped up when the players were hit with “you’re not fit to wear the shirt” as they went to clap the fans at full-time. That is a pretty stinging message for any of the Aberdeen players to hear. Incidentally, the shouts came from the same Red Shed that Cormack sanctioned to create a better match-day atmosphere at Pittodrie. Ouch.

Aberdeen started the season as Scotland’s third force and with guaranteed European group stage football for the first time in more than a decade. They have fallen so far you now wouldn’t bet against them being able to stay out of the relegation play-off spot.

One win, of course, can change everything but you can’t see where that victory is coming from. Neil Warnock is an experienced manager and was brought in to steady the ship. But he has guided this Dons team into the choppiest of waters and they could easily be up to their necks in it as the tide doesn’t look to be turning.

Warnock in the post-match press conference admitted he wasn’t confident he could save the season, asking the assembled press pack: “Can you see us winning a game?” The 75-year-old said he wanted to put smiles on faces when he took over from Barry Robson but the opposite has occurred. Warnock was brought in to buy Cormack and his board time to appoint a new manager.
