Tony Docherty lands wild Aberdeen FC boss pitch amid 'bonkers' external manager hunt

Aberdeen's decision to call in a external company to review their footballing operation has came under fire - with Dundee manager Tony Docherty now been touted as a surprise name to fill the vacancy at Pittodrie.

Following interim boss Neil Warnock's surprise exit last week, the Dons confirmed that German football consultancy group BPTC - headed by former Hoffenheim official Bernhard Peters - are assisting with the process of finding the club's next permanent manager. The Reds are in dire need of some stability, with a run of 11 Premiership matches without a victory putting their 121-year-long stay in the top-flight in doubt. Ahead of tomorrow's clash with Motherwell at Fir Park, Aberdeen sit just three points above 11th placed Ross County in the relegation play-off zone.

Journalist and pundit Mark Guidi has been left by the club's approach in appointing their next manager, describing the process as bonkers. Speaking on Go Radio, he said: "I can't get my head around that. Why are you paying people to be a part of your football club?

"Why do you have people in full-time roles if you need to go to and hire an external company who might be able to tell you who might be right for the job. It's bonkers but just sums Aberdeen up at the current moment.

"If Aberdeen lose at Fir Park tomorrow they are deep in it and are contenders to go down. So that might speed up the process of appointing a manager before the international break. They have also got a Scottish Cup semi final against Celtic and will probably want their new man in for that."
