Dave Cormack blasts back at Rangers chief Stewart Robertson in SPFL TV deal row as Aberdeen chief breaks down £150m 'reality'
Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has blasted back in the SPFL TV deal row ahead of Premiership clubs holding crisis talks over the proposed £150m contract with current broadcaster Sky and he wants to get over "the never-ending cinch dispute". Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson accused Hampden head honchos of “underselling Scottish football” in an interview last week.
The Ibrox club refused to give their backing for a new £30 million a year deal which would see current broadcaster Sky Sports continue to show top flight games until 2029 and increase the live match package from 48 to 60 games a season. And Livingston have reportedly joined Rangers in failing to respond to the SPFL ’s 'Qualified Resolution' - which would remove the necessity for a waiver letter and needs a 11-1 majority to give the green light to the new deal.
Robertson hit out at the SPFL chiefs for failing to put the the TV deal out to tender and pointed to Malmo, who defeated Gers in the Champions League qualifiers last season, as having a TV deal worth double Scotland’s as evidence of clubs being disadvantaged in Europe by the lack of finance.
However, Dons supremo Cormack has hit back as he defended the deal on offer from Sky. And he pointed to the fact Sweden and other nations outside of the European superpower nations sell much more games as part of their deal as he highlighted the fact the SPFL is worth much more per game - in excess of £500,000.
