Dartford manager Steve King reacts to their 4-2 win over Welling United in National League South

Dartford’s superior finishing was the difference in their National League South derby success over Welling.

That’s the verdict of Darts boss Steve King after his side ran out 4-2 winners over his former club.

Although two errors from on-loan defender Kory Roberts helped Welling into a 2-1 first-half lead, Dartford had enough firepower to turn it around.

“I thought Welling gave it a real good go,” said King. “They were bright and shut us down. Obviously, two mistakes, you can’t hide them from Kory at the back.

“I said you don’t get that time in this league. One he tried a Cruyff turn in the middle of the pitch and I’ve already told him don’t do it because I’ve seen him try that in the past.

“He’s cost us two goals and he nearly put Dan Wilks in hospital (with a short back pass). I’m disappointed from that point of view as that cost us.

“The difference between the two sides was the quality of the finishing. The first one a brilliant lob, the second goal was a five-man move, the third one was a fantastic strike by Luke Allen in off the post and the fourth was unbelievable goal coming inside and bending it into the top corner. There’s the difference, the quality of our finishing.”

It rounds off an excellent week for the Darts, who completed three derby wins in eight days.

Having seen off Tonbridge and Ebbsfleet, they knew they couldn’t afford a slip-up against lowly Welling.

“Nine points from three derbies,” stated King. “That’s what I’ve tried to point out to everybody, there’s eight derbies for us in this league. We’re trying to win it with eight derbies.

“When you play a derby, the league table goes out of the window, you just want to win the game.
