Jurgen Klopp admits he got 'carried away' after Liverpool's win over Leeds United

Jurgen Klopp has revealed how Joel Matip's goal was the result of Liverpool's targeted tactics as they hammered Leeds United 6-0.

Matip made it 2-0 with his first of the campaign when he carried the ball from defence before finishing past Ilan Meslier after an exchange with Mohamed Salah on the half-hour mark.

Salah also bagged two for himself from the penalty spot before a Sadio Mane brace and a Virgil van Dijk header late on secured an emphatic result against Marcelo Bielsa's men.

A feature of Matip's play all game was his willingness to bring the ball out from the back to get Liverpool on the front foot and Klopp explained how it was the defender's "duty" in the system on the night at Anfield.

"You might remember the goal [against Leeds in September], it was Mo's goal from Trent's cross at Leeds and it was a similar situation, I am sure," Klopp said.

"The way Leeds defend, it gives Joel, especially, on that right side, the chance [to come forward] and actually it is his duty to step in to make yards.

"And then, in the end, they will always make the block but they have to find a way to keep the game going. He did that this time with the pass outside and he followed it through.

"This is absolutely great and then he finished it off!

"It's not possible to do that in all games or needed in all games but against Leeds, it is possible and it is needed as well.

"So he did that very well and got the full reward for it, so I am really happy."

The Reds went three points behind table-toppers Manchester City with the victory and the result was celebrated passionately by Klopp in front of the Kop with a series of trademark fist bumps at full time.
