Isthmian League round-up: Folkestone Invicta close in on title, Chatham and Dartford boost play-off chances, Welling win in relegation battle
Folkestone Invicta took another step towards the Isthmian Premier title with an excellent away win on Saturday.
Jay Saunders’ men are now just two wins away from becoming champions after a 2-0 win at Brentwood, who started the day in third place.
Folkestone raced into a two-goal lead inside 15 minutes as Sam German’s second-minute header was added to by skipper Kevin Lokko.
Chatham are up to third after winning 3-0 at Burgess Hill.
Junior Dixon gave Chatham a 33rd-minute lead with Sam Sene-Richardson adding a second before half-time. Dixon then completed the scoring with his second goal three minutes after the break.
Dartford kept the pressure on the top five with a 4-1 home win over Lewes.
Ady Pennock’s men have six games left and trail Billericay in fifth spot by five points.
The Darts went ahead in the first minute when Olly Box and Dan Carter combined to set up Dan Smith to finish.
Smith then added his second with a stunning strike 10 minutes later.
Lewes pulled one back early in the second half through Devonte West but two goals in the space of six minutes by Denzelle Olopade and Michael Olarewaju wrapped up the points.
Ola Ogunwamide’s goal midway through the first half was enough for Cray Wanderers to take three points at home to relegation-threatened Potters Bar but Ramsgate were beaten 2-0 at St Albans.
At the other end of the table, Welling United remain one point from safety after winning 2-1 at home to 10-man Whitehawk.
Lekan Majoyegbe gave the Wings a second-minute lead and Whitehawk had Taufee Skandari sent off on 25 minutes for two yellow cards.
Harry Lodovica equalised for the visitors early in the second half but substitute Noah Stewart came off the bench to score a priceless winner on his Welling debut
