Europa Conference League: Slavia Prague comical goal goes viral

European football returned to our lives this week as the Champions League roared back into life.

Paris Saint-Germain pipped Real Madrid in the pick of the last 16 ties thanks to a sublime last-gasp winner from none other than Kylian Mbappe while Liverpool registered a dominant win over Inter Milan.

Goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah were enough to give the Reds a healthy advantage going into the second leg at Fortress Anfield in a fortnight’s time.

Elsewhere, Manchester City further underlined their favourites tag as they blew Sporting Lisbon away with a scintillating display in Portugal.

The Europa League then took centre stage as Scottish giants Rangers rose to the occasion with aplomb to swat aside German superpower, Borussia Dortmund.

It was a truly special night for the side in blue as they set up what could be one of their biggest ever knockout victories in European football.

And then, of course, came the Europa Conference League.

UEFA’s new baby hasn’t exactly set the world alight but what it has done is provide a platform for players who wouldn’t necessary have a chance at competing at the European table.

As a result, there has been some very competitive football on show but it has, admittedly, also coughed up some truly comical moments.

Never was that more on show than when Fernabahçe took on Slavia Prague in a first-leg clash.

Ultimately, Slavia would go onto upset their hosts in a five-goal thriller but it was the game’s opening goal that will be remembered.

With both sides pushing for a break-through, it was a Slavia attack that, via a long and winding road, saw the ball find its way into the back of the net.
