Darren Moore issues rallying cry amid Sheffield Wednesday promotion push

Lincoln City produced a performance that many knew they were capable of to get the better of in-form Sheffield Wednesday to a 3-1 scoreline at the weekend.

The overwhelming strength of League One this season has seen the Imps fall well below the high standards they set last season, losing out to Blackpool in the play-off final, but they have shown their true ability in patches, one of those coming at the worst possible time for Wednesday.

Darren Moore has stayed level-headed through a lot of ups and downs this season, calling on his experience with Doncaster Rovers to successfully navigate Wednesday in the right direction.

The 47-year-old was fully focused on the task at hand when he spoke to YorkshireLive.

He said: “Our job was to get in the top six and we have to solidify ourselves in there.

“Once we have done that, we can then look further ahead.

“We have to make sure we apply ourselves well and are ultra competitive for the remaining games of the season.

“I have got the utmost respect for this division and the teams in the league.

“I never take anything for granted. I’m never surprised with anything.

“I am always 100 per cent on detail and specifics.

“There were things that happened in the Lincoln game that were not us so we have to get back to it and we have to go about our work.

“We can get some good work done on the training ground this week and go from there.

“Nothing is easily given to you in this league.

“You have got to earn it.”

The loss was not a huge concern given the sustained promotion pushing form the Owls have demonstrated over the last few months, they will be confident of better maintaining their top six spot in the coming weeks.

The Verdict

In their last 25 games, the Owls have won 13, drawn seven
