Darren Moore drops major hint over Sheffield Wednesday player's long-term future

Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore has dropped his biggest hint yet that Cameron Dawson will be part of his plans for next season. Lifelong Owls fan Dawson has starred on loan at Exeter City this term, playing an instrumental part in their promotion to League One.

Dawson has produced a string of eye-catching performances down on the south coast, recording an impressive 18 clean sheets in 44 league starts. Exeter fans have taken to Dawson and Grecian boss Matt Taylor has already expressed his desire to bring him back to St James Park next year.

The 26-year-old, contracted to Wednesday until the summer of 2024, was allowed to join Exeter on a season-long loan after Moore drafted in Bailey Peacock-Farrell. Moore was keen for Dawson to play regular first-team football after he suffered a serious knee injury at the back end of last season.

When quizzed on Dawson's future, Moore told Yorkshire Live: "We will have him back with us. Congratulations to Exeter (for promotion) and really, really well done to them as a football club.

"There is unfinished business there because they want to go for the title but he will be returning back with us come pre-season."

Exeter sealed promotion to the third tier with a 2-1 win over Barrow last week. Taylor's side moved to the top of the table after a hard-fought draw at Northampton Town on Saturday.
