Dara O'Shea seals big-money transfer and Liverpool star joins plus Mr Versatile arrives – Celtic's perfect defence

The weeks are ticking down until the end of the transfer window and Brendan Rodgers is yet to bolster his defence.

There have been three incomings for the Hoops this summer, with midfielder Paulo Bernardo and goalkeepers Viljami Sanisalo and Kasper Schmeichel joining the club. But there have been no defensive or attacking arrivals, with Rodgers making it clear he is prepared to be patient, stressing that he wants quality over quantity.

Given that Celtic boasted the best defence in the Scottish Premiership last season – conceding just 30 in 38 games – it may not be the top priority for Rodgers. However, with departures pending, new defensive arrivals are expected before the transfer window slams shut on August 30. Here Record Sport takes a look at what Celtic's dream defensive options may look like by the end of the window…

Rodgers is keen to complement what he already has in the heart of his defence, with Record Sport revealing his interest in Burnley's Dara O'Shea earlier this summer. The 25-year-old wouldn't come cheap though, given the Clarets paid West Brom £7million for his services only last summer.

Celtic would need to get somewhere near that figure to bring the Ireland international to the club. They could face competition from English Premier League side Brentford, who are keen to bolster the heart of their defence, but signing a player of his calibre would be a real statement of intent by Rodgers.

Celtic are keen on Crystal Palace's utility man Jeffrey Schlupp, a player who can operate at left-back, midfielder and on the wings.
