Danny Schofield opens up on surprise Huddersfield Town appointment after Carlos Corberan resignation

Huddersfield Town's new man at the helm Danny Schofield has given an insight into how Carlos Corberan's departure took him by surprise and how his appointment has come ahead of schedule. It's been the long-term plan for Schofield to take over at the John Smith's Stadium but Corberan's resignation has seen that plan move forward.

The Terriers boss admitted it was not his ambition to become a head coach earlier on in his career, but knew it was something that could come around after returning to the club.

Speaking to the press, Schofield said: "I think I'm just as surprised as anyone else. From the success we had last season and then for me to be announced as the head coach after Carlos resigned, was a massive shock.

"No, not really. We reflected on the final last season and everyone just went off on their holidays and spent time with their families. Pre-season was prepared as normal, ready to go. I think it was four or five days into pre-season when it happened.

"I didn't know until he actually resigned. There was text messages to prepare pre-season before. I've not spoken to him since he left. I think Carlos will be reflecting on the season he's had, the successes and preparing for his next journey.

"It's not something I've ever set my goal on, to be a head coach. I've been an academy coach and loved coaching young players and transitioning into being first-team players. When I returned to Huddersfield it was potentially something that could happen, but it wasn't to happen this soon.

"I think there was a three or four year plan for me to progress but certainly not this quick. I think the journey I've been on has been very interesting. I've worked with some great coaches and really good players who have progressed and
