Danny Schofield makes Huddersfield Town admission after receiving offer from mystery club

Huddersfield Town manager Danny Schofield has revealed that he turned down an offer to coach at an unnamed Belgian club before taking on his new role at the Terriers. Schofield stepped in as Head Coach at the club after Carlos Corberan’s shocking resignation, but it could have turned out differently for the new gaffer.

Corberan took Huddersfield all the way to the play-off finals last season, ultimately falling at the final hurdle. Schofield will hope to use the positive momentum from the last campaign to stage another promotion push this season.

Schofield started at Town as a player, making 285 appearances and scoring 46 goals in a fantastic decade with the club. After departing as a player in 2008, the 42-year-old returned as a coach in 2020 after building his resume at various clubs, including Leeds United, where he worked alongside Corberan, steering their Under-23 side to the Professional Development League title in 2018/19.

Schofield helped introduce the B-Team model at the club and was then promoted to work with the senior team in August 2020 and deputised as first team manager three times when Corberan was absent on the touchline before taking full control this summer.

He will now lead a club he has had a great association with over the years in his first senior team management role as they look to put last season’s play-off disappointment behind them. However, Schofield has explained that he was almost tempted away from the club.
