Danny Richardson could make Castleford return at Salford after horror neck injury

Danny Richardson is in contention to make his first-team return for Castleford Tigers this weekend - despite the fracture suffered to his neck three months ago still not properly healing. Richardson made his long-awaited comeback to action last weekend for the Tigers' reserve side against Leeds Rhinos.

It marked the end of a tumultuous three-month period on the sidelines for the half-back, the majority of which he spent in a neck brace that prevented him from doing any physical activity. However, Tigers coach Lee Radford revealed on Tuesday that after coming through his comeback match unscathed, he could feature in the club's Super League clash with Salford on Friday.

That is despite the bone in question still not reattaching to its original position - something specialists have told Richardson is unlikely ever to resolve itself.

Former Rugby Football League Chief Executive Maurice Lindsay passes away aged 81

"It's still a bad one, it's still not fully healed and the bone has still not reattached," Radford revealed. "When you se it on the scans, you grimace, but the specialists have said it's never going to heal properly.

"It's been a long time for him, the neck brace was a real struggle for him because when you're wearing that, you can't do anything physically and you lose all your mass.

"But he came through the reserves game and I thought he was good. It was a difficult day, the standard wasn't very high if I'm being brutally honest, but how he communicated with the blokes was great. He'll be in contention."

The Tigers will also get another significant boost on the injury front this week, with winger Greg Eden and forward Cheyse Blair also back in contention, offsetting the loss of Liam Watts, who is suspended.
