Danny Cowley drops hint over Portsmouth player’s future

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley has hinted to The News that he would be keen on keeping Aiden O’Brien at the club in the longer term.

The versatile forward player joined the South Coast side from Sunderland on a short term contract until the end of the current campaign and has since hit two goals already for his new side.

O’Brien will no doubt be keen to impress his new boss even further before the season is out and will be aiming to earn a longer term deal at Fratton Park in the process.

Now Cowley has admitted that he would be open to extending the player’s stay as the club continues to run the rule over the forward:

“He gets the chance to look at us, we get the chance to look at him, and certainly it’s a relationship which has worked out well so far. I like him.”

O’Brien previously struggled to get the game time that he craved at Sunderland and has now joined one of their promotion rivals in the hope of proving a lot of his doubters wrong.

So far he has certainly gone a long way towards doing just that as he has raced out the traps with Pompey.

The Verdict

This was a great signing for Cowley to make at such an important stage of the campaign and as a result Pompey are already feeling the benefits of having O’Brien around.

He is someone who has plenty of experience of playing in the Championship and in League One for Millwall and certainly deserves this chance to prove himself again.

For one reason or another it just didn’t work out for him at Sunderland, however his goal record there wasn’t even too bad.

IF he continues his form in front of goal for Portsmouth, a new contract could soon be in the offing.
