Danny Cowley clears up Denver Hume’s situation at Portsmouth ahead of Ipswich clash

Portsmouth head coach Danny Cowley has revealed that Denver Hume’s game-time has recently been limited due to the fact that his fitness is being managed carefully by the club.

Hume was a notable absentee from Pompey’s starting eleven for their meeting with Accrington Stanley and only made a brief cameo appearance during their showdown with Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.

Portsmouth managed to seal all three points in both of these aforementioned fixtures to maintain their hopes of launching a push for a play-off place in the closing stages of the season.

Before joining Pompey in January, Hume struggled with injury at Sunderland as he missed a considerable chunk of action.

After recovering from a hamstring problem that he sustained in the Black Cats’ play-off semi final last season, Hume picked up another issue in October.

With Pompey set to face Ipswich Town this weekend, it will be intriguing to see whether Hume will feature in this fixture.

Ahead of this showdown, Cowley has cleared up the defender’s current situation at Portsmouth.

Speaking to The News about Hume, Cowley said: “I think he’s a player that hadn’t played too much and hadn’t had that rhythm of games before he came in.

“I think we’re just trying to manage him really carefully, and get him up to speed.

“When he’s played, I think he’s done really well and he adds so much to the attacking aspect of our game in terms of his dynamism and his moments of quality with his crossing.”
